Interpretation of the Bible / Romans 5:21
Verse 21 of Romans 5 is an important verse that contains an important truth for every Christian. In this verse, the Apostle Paul compares and contrasts the effects of sin and grace.
Sin
Paul begins by comparing sin and its consequences. He says that sin reigned in death. This is a powerful statement. Sin brings death, both spiritual and physical.
Death is the end result of sin, and as we know, sin is a universal problem. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). This verse emphasizes the seriousness of sin and its ultimate consequence, death.
Grace
But in contrast, Paul also talks about grace. He says that grace will reign through righteousness to eternal life. Grace is a gift from God through Jesus Christ.
A gift that we do not deserve and cannot earn on our own. But grace is stronger than sin. Just as sin brings death, grace brings eternal life in Jesus Christ. Grace is the antidote to sin and death.
