Interpretation of the Bible / Romans 15:32

So that I may come to you with joy, by God’s will, and in your company be refreshed.

The book of Romans was written by Paul at the end of his third missionary journey in 57 CE. The letter was addressed to the church in Rome, a Christian community that included both Jews and Gentiles. Paul’s main goal was to establish Christian doctrine in Rome and to establish the church in its faith.

In Romans 15, Paul speaks of the importance of loving one’s neighbor and how this is the responsibility of all Christians, both Jews and Gentiles. In verse 30, Paul asks the church members to pray for him that he would be delivered from the unbelievers in Judea and that his ministry in Jerusalem would be accepted by the saints.

Meaning of the verse

In verse 32, Paul asks another question of the church in Rome. He asks the Romans to pray that he might come to them with joy and rest among them, God willing. This verse shows that Paul was determined to visit the church in Rome and that his goal was to visit them and share his faith with them.

Furthermore, the use of the phrase “by God’s will” in this verse is significant because it teaches that the joy and peace we can have in God is not based on our circumstances, but on our faith that God’s will is perfect. This verse also shows us that we must seek God’s will and that when we follow His will, He blesses us with joy and peace.
