Interpretation of the Bible / Matthew 19:14

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Matthew 19:14 talks about children. With this statement, Jesus emphasizes the importance of children for entering the Kingdom of Heaven.

Jesus’ attitude toward children

Jesus always showed great compassion and love for children, accepting them without judgment or discrimination. This verse shows us Jesus’ attitude toward them: He not only loved children, but He considered them the basis for the exercise of faith and their participation in the Kingdom of Heaven.

What does “Let the little children come to me” mean?

The phrase “let the little children come to me” tells us the importance of accepting little ones and not burdening them with a burden they are not prepared to bear. We must learn from them and allow them to relate to Jesus from their own childlike perspective, without trying to force a religion on them that is tailored to us.

Why are children important in the Kingdom of Heaven?

Jesus speaks of the purity and lack of prejudice that children have to emphasize the importance of innocence and humility. To enter the Kingdom of Heaven, we must approach God simply and impartially, like children who are unaware of the dividing lines created by adults in this world.
