Interpretation of the Bible / 2 Peter 1:3

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

2 Peter 1:3 speaks of the gratitude we should have for God for giving us everything we need to live a life of godliness and purpose. But what exactly does that mean? To understand it, we need to take a closer look at what the text is telling us.

The Things God Has Given Us

The first part of the verse says, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life.” Here Peter is talking about all the things we need to live a life of fullness and purpose. This includes basic needs like food, water, and shelter, of course, but it also includes things like health, friends, family, and the unique abilities that each person has.

In addition, God has given us everything we need to live a godly life. This includes access to His word through the Bible, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the opportunity to pray, and the opportunity to gather with other believers.

Divine Power

It is important to note that all of this is given to us “by His divine power.” This means that our ability to live a full and purposeful life comes directly from God. It is He who gives us the tools we need to face life’s challenges, resist temptations, and do His will.

Knowing God

The verse also emphasizes that all of this is given to us “through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” Here Peter is telling us that the key to accessing all of God’s blessings is knowing Him. It is through the revelation of His word that we learn who God is, what His plan is for our lives, and how we can fulfill His will.
