Interpretation of the Bible / Luke 2:14
Luke 2:14 is one of the most well-known verses in the Christian community and is often used as a hymn during the Christmas season. However, the meaning of these words is deeper than it may seem at first glance.
Verse context
The phrase appears in Luke 2, in the account of the birth of Jesus. An angel appears to a group of shepherds in the fields near Bethlehem, informing them of the newborn Savior. After the angel appears, a multitude of angels appear and sing the song of Luke 2:14.
Verse content
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests” is a praise to God, an acknowledgement of His greatness and splendor. But it is also a praise of the peace and good will that came to humanity through the birth of Jesus.
