Interpretation of the Bible / Luke 13:3
The third verse of Luke 13 calls for repentance. This passage tells us that unless we repent, we will all perish. The word repentance means to change direction, to turn away from sin, and to return to God. This verse shows us the fundamental importance of repentance in the Christian life.
The need for repentance
Luke 13:3 reminds us that we all need to repent. This is because we have all fallen into sin and strayed from God’s will. However, while we all need to repent, many of us tend to think that we don’t need to, that we are too good or righteous for it, that our sins are not as serious as others.
This type of thinking can lead us to a false sense of security that jeopardizes our eternal salvation. Therefore, the call to repentance is necessary if we are to be reconciled to God.
God's judgment
This verse teaches us that God has prepared a judgment for those who do not repent. We will all stand before God's judgment seat, and those of us who have not repented of our sins will be condemned. This judgment is for both believers and unbelievers. Furthermore, believers will also be judged, not to determine our salvation, but to determine our reward in heaven.
