Interpretation of the Bible / Matthew 19:4-6

“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

Matthew 19:4-6 clearly points to the marriage union through God. These verses state that when a couple gets married, they become one flesh and therefore should not separate. Marriage was designed by God for a man and a woman to become one and be united forever.

Understanding marriage according to God

When God created Adam and Eve, He created them to complement each other. In Genesis 2:18, God says, “The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”” Thus, God instituted marriage and designed a couple to be one flesh. When a man and a woman come together, they become one flesh, united by God.

The importance of maintaining marriage

It is important that a marriage remain whole, as God intended. When a couple gets married, they commit to being together and supporting each other for life. In this process, love, respect and loyalty play a vital role. Spouses should strive to become the best version of themselves for the sake of the well-being of their marriage and family.
