Interpretation of the Bible / Romans 10:10

For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

This verse is crucial to understanding the connection between what we believe internally and what we express externally. Romans 10:10 talks about justice and salvation, and how these two realities relate to our confession of faith.

Believe with your heart to obtain justice

The first thing Paul emphasizes in this verse is the importance of believing in the heart. In the Bible, the heart does not refer only to a physical organ, but is a metaphor for our spirituality, our inner world. Paul tells us that it is through the faith within us that we attain righteousness. What does this mean?

The justice in question here is not social justice, but divine justice. In other words, believing with your heart means recognizing that you are a sinner and in need of God’s salvation. It is believing that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and that through His sacrifice we can obtain the justice that God demands.

Confess with your mouth to be saved

The second aspect that this verse emphasizes is the importance of confessing with your mouth. Confession here does not mean admitting our sins to other people, but rather publicly confessing our faith in Jesus Christ. It means openly speaking about our faith in the Lord and declaring our devotion to Him.

This public confession is an important step in the life of a Christian because we join with other followers of Jesus and realize that we are part of a community of believers. In addition, public confession also helps us to strengthen our faith and become witnesses of God's love through our words.
