Interpretation of the Bible / Psalm 115:1

Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.

Psalm 115 is a hymn of praise to God, in which the psalmist emphasizes the importance of giving Him all the glory and honor that He deserves in our lives. The author strives to ensure that the glory is not directed to idols and false gods, but solely to God.

The importance of giving glory to God

In Psalm 115:1, the author says that glory is not to ourselves, but to the name of God. Often in our daily lives, we seek glory for ourselves, thinking about how to impress others with our abilities and achievements, forgetting that everything we have and are comes from God. Therefore, it is important to remember that we do not seek glory for ourselves, but should direct all our actions and thoughts to glorify God.

Moreover, the author mentions that glory is given to God for His mercy and truth. We humans do not deserve God's mercy and truth because we are sinners and have made many mistakes. However, His love for us is so great that He gives us another chance by forgiving us and giving us the opportunity to live a full and happy life. Therefore, it is important to give glory to God by recognizing His goodness and love for us.
