Interpretation of the Bible / Psalm 80:19

Restore us, Lord God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved.

Psalm 80 is one of the most famous psalms in the Bible. It contains the psalmist's prayer and plea to God for the restoration of the people of Israel. In this psalm, we see the psalmist in despair and grief, seeking divine help to save his people. Verse 19 is one of the most impressive and powerful verses of the psalm, in which the psalmist addresses God with a direct request in a short prayer.

Restore your people, o Lord

Psalm 80 was written during a time when the people of Israel were experiencing difficult times. They were persecuted, oppressed, and in some cases, scattered throughout the land. Amid this chaos, the psalmist prayed to God for help and restoration of his people.

In this verse, we see the psalmist directly appealing to God, represented by the name of the Lord, the God Almighty. He asks God to restore His people and make them shine with the light of His face, which means that God must show them His favor and grace. If God does this, the psalmist believes his people will be saved. In this verse, we see that the psalmist not only asks for restoration but also acknowledges that only God can accomplish this.
