Interpretation of the Bible / Psalm 119:7
Psalm 119 is the longest psalm in the Bible, known as the Psalm of the Law. It consists of 176 verses and is notable for its emphasis on understanding and keeping God's law. Verse 7 affirms that knowledge and obedience to God's law lead to praise and worship.
The importance of knowing God's Law
The psalmist emphasizes the importance of knowing God's law. He says that by knowing God's righteous judgments, he will be able to praise Him with a righteous heart. This shows us that we cannot properly praise God unless we know His law and keep it. In other words, true glory comes through knowing and keeping God's law.
How can we know God's righteous judgments?
God's law is found in the Bible, so reading and studying Scripture is essential for understanding God's righteous judgments. In the Bible, God reveals His will and His ways to us. In other words, it is in the Bible that we find God's law for our lives.
Obedience as a result of knowledge
Knowledge of God's law should lead to obedience. Knowing God's law and not obeying it does not bring true praise to God. Knowledge and obedience to God's law are two sides of the same coin. Moreover, several verses in the Bible call us to obedience to God's commandments (John 14:15, Hebrews 5:9, 2 John 1:6).
