Interpretation of the Bible / Hebrews 11:1

The Bible verse Hebrews 11:1 speaks to us about faith, describing it as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. This passage is one of the most well-known in Scripture and is widely used in teaching and preaching about faith and its importance in the Christian life.

Faith

Faith is defined as a belief in something that cannot be fully seen or understood. For Christians, this means faith in God and His plan for humanity. Faith is a fundamental part of the Christian life, as it is through faith that a person can have a relationship with God and receive His grace and salvation.

However, faith is not limited to those who already believe. Everyone is capable of having faith, regardless of their religious or cultural background. Faith gives us hope and encourages us to believe in a better future, even when our current circumstances may seem daunting.

Confidence and conviction

The first part of Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for.” This means that faith gives us security and confidence that what we are hoping for will happen. We can be confident that God will keep His promises and guide us in the right direction in our lives.

The second part of the verse says, “assurance about what we do not see.” This part of the passage is talking about faith in things we have not yet seen, but believe with all our hearts. Faith gives us confidence in God’s future plans, even if we do not yet see them coming to fruition.
