Interpretation of the Bible / Psalm 118:6
In Psalm 118:6, the psalmist declares his absolute faith in God, acknowledging that He is with him and that he is not afraid of what man can do to him.
God is with us
The statement that God is with us is one of the most comforting truths in the Bible. In Deuteronomy 31:6, God tells Joshua that He will be with him wherever he goes. In Hebrews 13:5, God promises to never leave us nor forsake us. Furthermore, in Isaiah 41:10, God calls us not to fear, because He is with us.
Fear of man
While fear of the threat of harm from another person is natural, the Bible teaches us to trust in God to protect us. In Psalm 55:4, the psalmist says, "In God, whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?" Proverbs 29:25 says that the fear of man is a snare, but whoever trusts in God is safe.
Application to our lives
It's easy to say we trust God when things are going well, but when things go wrong, we often give in to fear and anxiety. This verse reminds us that trusting God gives us the power to overcome fear and anxiety. When we are confident that God is with us, we can face any situation with confidence.
