Interpretation of the Bible / Romans 13:1

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

Romans 13:1 teaches us a fundamental lesson about the role that higher authorities play in our society. The Apostle Paul lets us know that all authority on earth comes from God and is established by Him.

As believers, we must understand that we cannot simply ignore or disobey authorities because they are fulfilling a role that God has established.

What does it mean to submit to authorities?

Submitting to authorities can be very difficult for some. This is because we, as humans, often prefer to do things our own way, and it is easy to think that our ideas or methods are better than others.

However, according to Romans 13:1, submitting to authorities means respecting their decisions and abiding by their laws. Submission means recognizing that authorities may have knowledge and perspectives that we do not. While we may not always agree with the decisions of authorities, it is important to remember that disobeying legitimate laws and regulations can lead to serious consequences.
