The book of Proverbs tells us about the importance of hope for those who live righteously and uprightly before God. Chapter 10:28 tells us that the hope of the righteous is joy. Why? The answer is in the word “righteous.” Living righteously means doing what is right, following God’s commands, and having a close relationship with Him.

Hope for the righteous is not just a wish for something better, but an absolute faith in God’s faithfulness. They know that God is a God of promises and that He is able to fulfill them. This hope brings them joy and peace because no matter what their circumstances, they know that their future is ultimately secure in God.

The hope of the wicked will perish

Proverbs 10:28 not only talks about the hope of the righteous, but also about the hope of the wicked. In this case, it says that they will perish. The word “perish” implies a tragic end, eternal death, and alienation from God. The hope of the wicked is an illusion, a lie, because it is based on temporary things such as power, wealth, or success.

The hope of the wicked is fragile and unstable because it is not based on a relationship with God. Instead of seeking God, they rely on their own strength and abilities to achieve what they want. Their hope is temporary and limited, and when the moment of truth arrives, it gives way to despair and sorrow.
