Interpretation of the Bible / Acts 11:15

As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning.

The Bible verse in Acts 11:15 refers to the moment when Peter is telling the Jews about his experience preaching to the Gentiles in Caesarea. At this point, Peter recounts how the Holy Spirit fell on the Gentiles listening to him as he spoke, which to Peter was evidence that God accepted the Gentiles despite their religious and cultural differences.

Historical context

To understand this passage, it is important to consider the historical context in which it is found. At the time, many Jews believed that they alone were God’s chosen people, and that Gentiles were unclean and condemned. As a result of this belief, even some followers of Jesus saw no need to share the gospel message with Gentiles.

Significance of the passage

This passage has several important implications for Christians. First of all, it teaches us that we are all equal before God. The Holy Spirit does not discriminate in His work, and neither should we. This also teaches us that we should not be selective in who we share the gospel with. We should testify of God’s love for all people, because God is no respecter of persons.

In addition, in this passage we can find a call for Christian unity. Peter and his companions were surprised and happy that the Gentiles had received the Holy Spirit, realizing that they too were part of the Body of Christ. We should strive for unity among all believers, regardless of our cultural, linguistic, and theological differences.
