Interpretation of the Bible / Matthew 6:9-10

This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.’

Matthew 6:9-10 is part of Jesus' teaching on prayer, specifically how to pray effectively and meaningfully. In this verse, Jesus gives His disciples a model prayer commonly known as the "Our Father."

Our Father in heaven

The prayer begins with the words "Our Father in heaven," which means that the God the disciples are calling upon and worshiping is the Heavenly Father of all believers. By calling God "Father," Jesus is teaching them that God is personal and cares for each of them individually.

Hallowed be your name

"Hallowed be your name" is the next line of the prayer. In other words, believers are to hallow or honor God's name by acknowledging His holiness and placing Him in a place of reverence.

Your kingdom come, your will be done

This passage is a reminder that we must seek first the kingdom of God and His will. When we pray for the kingdom of God to come and for His will to be done on earth, we commit our lives to Him and trust that He knows what is best for us.
