Interpretation of the Bible / 1 John 2:17

The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

1 John 2:17 is a reminder that everything in this world is temporary and transitory, including desires and material things. In contrast, those who do the will of God will abide forever. This tells us that true strength and stability in our lives comes from seeking and following the Lord, not from seeking satisfaction in the fleeting pleasures of the world.

How can this verse help us?

This verse can be of great help during times of trial and turmoil. Often, we face difficult situations in life that cause us anxiety and stress. However, understanding and applying the teachings of this verse reminds us that everything we pursue in this world will fade away. Therefore, it is important to focus on doing the will of God, trusting that only He can offer us the permanence and security we need.

Likewise, this teaching reminds us of the importance of practicing humility and not depending on the desires and possessions of the world. We often rely on material things for our emotional and spiritual well-being, but by doing God's will, we can find the inner peace and security we seek.
