Interpretation of the Bible / Acts 22:16

And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.

In the book of Acts, chapter 22, we find the account of the apostle Paul, who tells of his call by God and his conversion to Christianity. In this passage, we find the famous words spoken by Ananias to Saul (Paul’s original name) after his encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus: Acts 22:16.

This verse is essentially a call to Saul to repent of his sins and to declare his faith in Jesus through baptism. It is an invitation to accept the redemption found in Jesus Christ and to renounce his former life as a persecutor of Christians. Baptism is an act of obedience and devotion to God, and a way to symbolize our transformation and our desire to follow Christ.
