Interpretation of the Bible / Proverbs 16:32

Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.

The book of Proverbs is rich in wisdom and contains practical teachings that can be applied to everyday life. Proverbs 16:32 is no exception, as it teaches us the importance of self-control.

The verse begins, “Better a patient person than a warrior.” Here we are told that it is more valuable for us to control our anger and not let our emotions control us in the moment of anger or frustration. Being strong does not mean being aggressive or cruel, but rather having self-control and the inner strength to dominate our emotions.

The verse continues, “one with self-control than one who takes a city.” This is about the importance of controlling our thoughts and emotions, even in stressful or difficult situations. A person who can control his spirit is stronger than one who can take a city, because he controls himself and his actions.
