Interpretation of the Bible / 1 John 2:24
In 1 John 2:24, the apostle John encourages us to abide in what we have heard from the beginning. This is an important exhortation that is still relevant today. In this passage, John tells us to be rooted in the Word of God, for only through it can we abide in fellowship with the Son and the Father.
Remain in the Word
The term “remain” in this verse is a translation of the Greek word “meno,” which means to dwell or to be present. So John is encouraging us to abide in the Word of God. To paraphrase the verse, John is telling us, “What you have heard from the beginning remains in you.”
The idea behind this is that the Word of God should not only be present in our minds, but it should be rooted in our hearts and be an integral part of our lives.
The importance of abiding in the Word
The Word of God is God’s way of communicating with us. In it we find the truth, wisdom, and guidance we need to live a full and satisfying life. Abiding in the Word means we develop our relationship with God, listen to His voice, and follow His will.
